Raipur: On the occasion of International Workers’ Day, the Indian National Congress, through its Cell for Unorganised Sector & Grievance Redressal, organized a grand Shramik Samman Samaroh (Labour Honour Ceremony) at Shaheed Smarak Bhavan, Raipur. The event witnessed the participation of several senior Congress leaders and enthusiastic workers.

Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) Chief Deepak Baij honored labourers by presenting them with coconut, shawls, and tiffin boxes, acknowledging their invaluable contributions to the nation’s development. Former ministers Mohammad Akbar, Satyanarayan Sharma, and former Labour Welfare Board chairman Shafi Ahmed also addressed the gathering.

During his address, Deepak Baij emphasized the pivotal role of workers in nation-building. He reaffirmed the Congress party's commitment to the welfare and dignity of workers. "Congress governments in the past introduced revolutionary welfare schemes like MNREGA, Right to Education, and Right to Food, aimed directly at uplifting the poor and working class," he said.

Baij criticized the BJP-led governments at both the center and state levels for neglecting the working class. He noted that under BJP rule, many workers have been forced to migrate to other states due to lack of local opportunities. “Congress celebrates Labour Day as Bore Basi Diwas, symbolizing our cultural and grassroots connect with workers,” he added.

Mohammad Siddique, President of the Congress Cell for Unorganised Sector, praised workers' relentless efforts and sacrifices. He stated, “Labourers are the backbone of our society; without them, development is unimaginable. Congress stands with every worker in their struggle.”

The event was coordinated by Congress General Secretary and MLA Kanhaiya Agrawal, who efficiently led the proceedings. A large number of party leaders, elected representatives, INTUC leaders, and labourers were present.
