Empowering the Visually Impaired: Collector Bhonskar Distributes Smartphones and Learning Tools

In a significant move to empower visually impaired school children, Surguja District Collector Vilas Bhonskar distributed Android smartphones, keypads, headphones, and adapters on Thursday under the innovative initiatives of the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan.

During the distribution program, the collector interacted personally with the students, inquiring about their education and health. He emphasized the importance of compassion and attentiveness among the teachers working with special needs children. Collector Bhonskar also directed the District Mission Coordinator of Samagra Shiksha to ensure the availability of all essential facilities to the beneficiaries.

These assistive tools are expected to significantly ease the learning process for the visually impaired students. With the help of the TalkBack feature in Android phones, students can now navigate study materials and digital resources independently and with confidence.

Beneficiaries included students from various blocks:

  • Ambikapur Block: Mahendra Singh

  • Udaipur Block: Punita (Higher Secondary School, Salka), Radhe (High School, Sontarai), Devmuni (Middle School, Ghunchapur)

  • Lakhanpur Block: Duleshwari (High School, Chando), Anjali (High School, Andhla)

  • Batauli Block: Princee, Abhay, Sunita, Rohit, Shivnath, Bhanu Kumar, Dinesh Kumar, and Ayush from High School, Maheshpur

Senior officials including Additional Collector Sunil Nayak, A.L. Dhruv, District Mission Coordinator Ravi Shankar Tiwari, and APC Dinesh Sharma were present at the event. BRPs and special educators were also in attendance, demonstrating their ongoing commitment to inclusive education.

This initiative marks a progressive step towards inclusive and accessible learning, reinforcing the government's commitment to leave no child behind.
