A terrifying leopard attack was reported in Anchidongri village under Sarona Forest Range, Kanker district, on Saturday afternoon. Six-year-old Naman Kumar was playing outside his house when a leopard, emerging suddenly from the nearby forest, pounced on him and clutched his neck.

In a heroic act, Naman’s elder brother noticed the attack and bravely shouted and charged at the leopard. Startled by the commotion, the big cat released Naman and fled back into the forest.

Naman sustained deep wounds on his neck along with claw marks on his abdomen and hands. His family immediately rushed him to the Sarwandi Primary Health Center for emergency treatment, from where he was later referred to Kanker District Hospital. Doctors have reported his condition as stable.

Following the attack, the Forest Department launched an immediate search operation in the area and warned villagers through public announcements to avoid venturing outdoors during evening hours and to stay away from forested zones.

This incident adds to a growing list of leopard attacks in the region:

  • August 2024: In Koremud village on the Dhamtari-Kanker border, a 3-year-old boy named Tiresha Markam was tragically killed by a leopard while playing near his house.

  • September 25, 2024: In Nayapara, Dudhawa, a young girl was attacked by a leopard while heading to an anganwadi center with her aunt. The aunt bravely fought the leopard off, saving the child's life.

  • Another Attack: In Lendara village, Sarona Range, three people were seriously injured when a leopard attacked laborers working in fields.

  • Fourth Recent Incident: An 11-year-old boy, Neeraj Dhruv, was attacked while playing in Dudhawa. The leopard fled when nearby villagers intervened. Neeraj is currently receiving treatment for deep wounds at the district hospital.

The increasing frequency of these attacks has sparked widespread fear across Dudhawa and nearby areas. The Forest Department continues patrolling operations and urges residents to remain vigilant and report any wildlife sightings immediately.
